Attorney Jeffrey Foster established his own law firm in downtown Seattle, Washington on August 1, 2003. Mr. Foster began his practice following a tragic automobile accident involving a close family member.
For six days, Mr. Foster and his family stood vigil in the intensive care unit at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. The close family member was being kept alive by a ventilator after a horrific automobile accident in which the family member had been a back seat passenger in a vehicle that flipped several times on an icy road. After six days on life support and a 30-day hospital stay, the family member was discharged from the hospital but was left with exorbitant medical bills and an uncertain future.
Prior to this accident, Mr. Foster had limited his law practice to business and real estate litigation. After the accident, Mr. Foster agreed to represent the family member in the personal injury claim arising out of the accident. Given the severity of the injuries and substantial medical bills incurred by the family member, Mr. Foster believed the insurance companies would be sympathetic to the victim and quickly resolve the claims related to the accident. He couldn't have been more mistaken.
The case took nearly two years and thousands of hours of time to resolve. Additionally, the out-of-pocket costs incurred in prosecuting the claim were substantial. Only after filing a lawsuit and the threat of trial did the insurance companies agree to settle this highly unfortunate personal injury claim.
As a result of this experience, Mr. Foster made the decision to trade his business practice for a people practice.
